The answerer IIIIII is thinking of make up for black women in the 50’s.

Black women no matter what skin tone can wear whatever colors they want it just depends on the quality of the make up, the shade of the color and how pigmented the color is.

I don’t know what color you skin tone is but if you’re a lighter skinned African American I am thinking you have anywhere from an Alicia Keys skin tone to a Halle Berry skin tone ( A pic would really help) . Those skin tones generally look best with alot of golds, pinks, oranges, browns, bronzes and blues. Since you have a teal colored dress I would NOT use another blue eyeshadow. A PLUM eyeshadow with a dark grey crease would look fantastic on you. A brown would too but it may look a little to “natural” if you’re trying to go all out for prom. And there is always the reliable smokey eye.

You could always go to your local make up counter at the mall or specific palce (like MAC they make good eyeshadows) to get some professional make up ideas.

Earth tones, coppers, maybe a tiny bit of mauve.
Brown eyelines, and brown/black mascara

the other way is to go smokie with your eyes,
silver, smoke and gray tones on your eyes with black eyeliner a mauve/brownish lipstick.

Please don’t match the dress with your makeup

use earth colors if u have dark skin u dont want to use to many colors
