When your prom is less than ten days away, it’s a good idea to run through a basic checklist to make sure that everything is in place. On the day of prom, you will be busy getting ready, so to make sure everything turns out well, confirm your plans and double-check everything.

Want to know what you should do a week before prom? Follow the guidelines below.

Confirm Appointments:
If you are getting your hair, nails or make-up done, confirm the appointment time. If your appointments are scheduled back-to-back, make sure you have ample time to drive from one place to another, and remember that getting your hair or make-up done may take more time that you think.

Practice doing your Hair and Makeup:
If you are going to be doing your own hair and makeup, do a trial run to see how long it takes. You don’t want to be rushed on the day of prom, and having an idea of how much time you will need to get ready will avoid stress and allow you to plan accordingly.

Double-Check your Prom Dress:
If you bought your dress more than a month ago, make sure your prom dress isn’t wrinkled. Prom dresses, much like Quinceanera dresses or pageant dresses, need to be properly hanged in a closet. If your dress is wrinkled, hang the dress in your bathroom, blast hot water in the shower and shut the bathroom door. The steam in the bathroom will de-wrinkle your prom dress.
Also, try on your dress again to make sure it fits properly. Your weight may have fluctuated slightly. If your dress is tight, don’t worry. A week of healthy eating can help significantly.

Eat Healthfully:
It is important to eat well the week before prom. Make sure you are getting all of your vitamins and minerals to make you look and feel your best. Also, drinking water will make your skin clearer and more luminous.
- Tip: Take pre-cautions to avoid bloating. Drinking lots of water a week before prom will help. Also, try to avoid soft drinks, gum and sugar-free foods with sorbitol or malitol, especially on the day of prom. These products will cause bloating. Lastly, avoid high-fiber foods on the day of prom, such broccoli, whole-grain wheat, brussel sprouts and cauliflower to avoid bloating.

Confirm Reservations:
Confirm your dinner reservations by calling the restaurant to the number of people in your party and the time. If you are a renting a limo or a driver, confirm the pick-up and drop-off times and locations. Make sure the driver has directions.
- Tip: If you are going with a group of friends, make sure everyone knows what time the limo is leaving--and keep in mind that people may arrive 30 minutes late.

Order a Boutonniere:
Order your date’s boutonniere and if you think it is necessary, remind your date to order a corsage. Also, check-in with your date to decide what time you will be meeting to take pictures.

Double Check your Curfew and After Prom Plans:
Make sure you and your parents have agreed on your curfew time. When it comes closer to the prom date, try to renegotiate with your parents if necessary. Also, get the details on your after-party plans. Will you be staying at someone’s house or a hotel? Who will be attending the after-party, and what will you be doing? If you are planning the party, make sure you have snacks and extra blankets or pillows. If you are attending someone else’s party, get all of the details.

Going through a basic checklist a week before prom will help you stay on top of everything and avoid last-minute stress. Fortunately, finding the perfect prom dress or formal evening gown is often the hardest part. When you are only a week away from prom, all you have to do it double check your previous arrangements.

A blue and white envelope just arrived in your mailbox. Inside is an invitation to your friend's house warming party next week. She is going to have wine, cheese, hor dours, and entertainment. It's going to be a dazzling event and you know you should dress up, but you have no idea what to wear.

Deciding what to wear to any social event can be overwhelming, especially when you have party favors, decorating, and baking to worry about--in addition to your day-to-day work. Fortunately, an attractive cocktail dress is suitable for many occasions.

If you are looking for versatility, the little black dress is a classic. It's attractive, simple, and stylish. You can wear it to almost any evening occasion, and you can personalize it with high heels, jewelry, and a handbag. And the little black dress can be quite attractive--just think about Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman,” wear she wears a black cocktail dress with lace trim.

When you are shopping in search of the perfect little black dress, pay attention to the small details (below):

What to Look for in a Little Black Dress:
- Length. The dress should hit at the thinnest part of your leg above the knee.
- Cut. Make sure the dress flatters your body type. The dress should accentuate a woman's curves and waist, but never ever be too tight.
- Fabric. Jersey fabric is comfortable and stretchy, but it may not hold its shape. Invest in a dress with a soft, flattering fabric such as silk or satin.

If you prefer new, trendy styles, try an updated version of the little black dress with a modern touch.

The Little, Black Dress with a Modern Touch:
- Sleeve length: Try a sexy strapless dress. Or, try a dress with long sleeves for the winter-time.

Wearing a stylish, colorful evening dress will make you more memorable, and it is much more festive than black. For the wintertime, try on dresses that are dark red, dark blue, ruby, gold, purple, or emerald green.

If you are looking for a prom dress this season, it may seem like prom dress designers have forgotten what so many women look like. It seems like too many department stores offer dresses in a limited range of sizes, with 2 being the most common prom dress size. If you've seen, "The Devil Wears Prada," you are familiar with the ever-shrinking dress sizes.

Fortunately, many top designers offer their dresses in all sizes, ranging from a size 2 to a size 18 to a size 32. So don't give up! There are many plus size prom dresses available. Before you go shopping in a store or online, it helps to have an idea of what size you are and which dress styles will look best on your body type.

How Do I Measure Myself for a Prom Dress?
To find your size, you need to measure your bust, your waist, and your hips.

- Bust: Measure your bust at the fullest part with your arms down by your side. If you are going to be wearing a fitted bra under your prom dress, put on the bra before measuring. You may be anywhere from 40 inches (a size 12) to 50 inches (a size 22) to 61 inches for the bust measurement.

- Waist: Measure the smallest part of your waist, which is about 2 inches above your belly button. Similarly, this number may range from 35 inches to 45 inches or more if you are above a size 20. If your body carries most of the weight around the middle section, the waist is often the largest measurement.

- Hips: Measure your hips around the fullest part, including your rear end too. This measurement is most likely 6-10 inches more than your waist measurement.

After getting your measurements, look at a size chart online to get an idea of what size you are. Remember, most 2009 prom dresses require some alterations to fit your body perfectly.

Deciding on the Right Plus Size Prom Dress for You:
Once you have your dress size, it's time to go shopping! It's a good idea to flip through fashion magazines before-hand to get an idea of what styles are popular and what kind of prom dress you would like. Do you want a full length prom dress or a cocktail dress? Are you a romantic at heart, are you inspired by 1950s styles, or do you prefer something modern? Having an idea of what you want before you go shopping can save you hours in the dressing room.

It's also suggested you have an idea of what dresses will accent your best features. Understanding your overall body shape will really help you out.

Your Waist was your Largest Measurement:
If your waist was your largest measurement, your body carries most of the weight in the middle section, which is common among women. An A-line or a princess silhouette dress will look great on you. If you have shapely legs, consider a dress that shows them off! You can also draw attention towards your face by wearing dazzling earrings and your hair up.

You have an Athletic Body Type:
If you have a defined waist and larger hips and thighs, you have an athletic body type. Look for dresses that emphasize your bust, like an empire waistline dress or an A-line dress that accentuates your bust. You may also want to look for dresses that have intricate details above the waist. And remember, you can always take a dress in, so make sure the dress isn't too tight on your hips and thighs.

Your Body Measurements are More or Less the Same:
If your weight is evenly distributed, look for plus size prom dresses that you give you shape. A fitted bodice top, a sash around the waist, and a flowing bottom will most likely look the best on you. Whichever dress you choose, make sure you feel comfortable in it. A sleeveless mermaid prom dress with sexy shoes and a great evening bag may be perfect for you!

Remember, you can find the perfect plus size prom dress. Top designers offer their prom dresses in many sizes. There are also prom dress boutiques that would be happy to help you pick a prom dress that looks fantastic on you.

The week preceding Homecoming is an exciting week in high school. There are pep rallies, decorations in the hallways, parades, and contests. During Spirit Week, students dress up for a different theme every day, which sometimes includes Pajama Day or Twin Day.

Typically on a Friday night, students get together and cheer on their high school football team. Everyone wears school colors, and many wear face paint to show their school pride. At the end of the night is a big celebration, the Homecoming dance.

At the Homecoming dance, the Homecoming King and Queen are often announced. Then everyone celebrates and dances all night long. To make the night particularly memorable, wear a fun, flirty dress that fits you well.

2009 Homecoming Dresses:
2009 Homecoming dresses are different than prom dresses, 2009 formal prom gowns, or 2009 Quinceanera dresses. Homecoming dresses tend to be shorter (think above the knee) and less formal. And any style works! Your dress can be a halter or strapless, and it can have lace, ruffles, or bows. If you want to stand out, try a dress with sequins, polka-dots, or beads.

Fortunately--your dress can be any color! If you want to keep it simple, stick to a cute black dress. But the majority of girls will have homecoming dresses in a variety of shades, such as emerald, gold, or deep blue. Homecoming is during the fall, so fall colors like plum, red, or orange are perfect. In general, since Homecoming is at night, try to stick to darker colors.

Lastly, don't limit yourself to homecoming dresses! You can also wear a cocktail dress.

Shoes for the Homecoming Dance:
After you have your homecoming dress, decide what kind of shoes you are going to wear. High heels will make your legs look longer, especially if the heels do not have a strap across the ankle. And the high heels should complement the dress.

If you are wearing a black dress, have fun with the shoes. Black dresses look good with almost everything, so don't be afraid of wearing red, purple, or gold shoes! If you chose a colorful homecoming dress, black or silver heels will most likely match.

Most importantly, make sure you can walk and dance in your shoes! Many girls take off their high heels for dancing, but the floor may be dirty, and you are going to be walking around talking to your friends on Homecoming night. If you feel uncomfortable walking in high heels, buy a pair of cute, dress up flats and wear them instead.

Makeup for the Homecoming Dance:
Once you have your homecoming dress and shoes picked out, decide what kind of makeup you are going to wear. Homecoming is meant to be fun, so you can experiment with glitter and bright eye-shadow colors. To get ideas, flip through fashion magazines or make an appointment to get your make-up done at a department store. Also, paint your nails and consider using tanning lotion on your legs.

Accessorizing for Homecoming:
Lastly, accessorize! Think about wearing a cute necklace or wild earrings. Homecoming is a big celebration at the beginning of the school year filled with school spirit, a parade, and a marching band, so have fun with the accessories. They should be festive and set the mood for the rest of the school year.

Advice for Homecoming:
As a little piece of advice, take pictures before leaving for your school's Homecoming dance and bring a camera. Everyone loves to get their picture taken and it can be a great ice-breaker at the beginning of the school year to meet people. It is also a great way to get snapshots of everyone in their homecoming dresses!

Choosing the perfect prom dress can be a fun, rewarding process. Looking through magazines for the latest fashions is a great way to start. Flip through magazines at home with your friends, or make a trip to the bookstore. There are many fashion and prom-related magazines out there, and they will give you an idea of what styles you like. You want to be comfortable with what you are wearing on your special night, so look for styles that match your preferences and personality.

Romantic Styles:
If you are the romantic type who falls for the Greek Goddess look, consider all white, empire style gowns. Also, think fairytale-inspired dresses in rose or pink shades. Consider curling your hair and wearing it down, and placing a delicate, intricate pin in your hair. You can also look like an angel in a flowing dress with one-shoulder.

Sophisticated Styles:
If you are sophisticated and love all black prom dresses, go for it. Accessorize with big, crystal earrings with a splash of red. Also, look for black dresses with sequins, or black dresses with bright, attention-grabbing sashes. They are fun, flirty, and daring.

Victorian Style:
If you loved to play dress up as a child, you may favor the Victorian style. Victorians tend to favor the layers of tulle and lace that come with the beautiful full ball gowns. Look for vintage lace, in pinks and yellows. Victorian style dresses are also fitting if you have a narrow waist and a womanly-lower body.

Sweet and Simple:
If you love the simplicity of fashion, a simple, strapless chiffon gown would be perfect for you. It's flirty because you can show off your shoulders, and it's also elegant and classy. You do not have to worry about beads, sequins or fancy designs with this style. Since a simple chiffon gown is, for a lack of better words--simple, feel free to get your hair styled in an up-do and wear flirty, fun heels.

Sexy Dresses:
If you have a great figure and want a sexy look, go straight for the straight--straight gowns that is. Silky, slinky and soft fabrics will look fabulous on you. These fabrics will show off your figure and show the latest of trends. Look for a combination of other fabrics and unique cuts that will help you achieve a sexy prom dress look.

Colors:
Prom dresses come in every color imaginable. Remember to look for colors that you like, not what everyone else is wearing. This year should be easy because there is an abundance of colors to choose from. Bright yellow and black, orange, emerald green and purple have made big come backs this year.

Prints:
If you are fashion forward, look for prom dresses with big oversized patterns and bright colors. We traveled for over 3 months throughout the world looking at different gowns and designs, and we were most impressed with the fashionable prints for 2009 prom dresses. These prints are unbelievably gorgeous, and you have to see them to believe them.

Be sure to look at online collections of prom dresses and formal evening gowns online. These 2009 collections are filled with limited edition prom dresses that will impress even the pickiest of picky.
