i got this really cute dress at kohl's on sale the other day and i was wondering if it was a good prom dress. it's a halter top with an empire waist and has a leopard print pattern. it goes down a little past my knees. here's a picture of it: http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u231/iluv_evanescence/P1010298.jpg .i love it and think it's adorable but is it formal enough for prom?
this is my junior prom so i didn't want to go with an expensive ball gown and i figured this dress would be a cute alternative. we haven't even really started planning prom yet but we know it's going to be on a ship at a lake up north.
plus: what kind of shoes would look best with this? any links or places i could find them?
you're right, it's too informal. any links to some more appropriate dresses?

I'm sixteen, and my junior prom is pretty far away (in May lol), but I'm looking now before all the dresses are taken. I'm not sure where I want to buy it from or anything like that, I just know I need one, possibly two if I go to senior prom with this guy...anyway...

I'm 5'9'' so I'm super tall, I have rly long legs and my chest isn't like big but I'm like a small C. I have medium-tannish skin and brown hair. What colors/styles would look best on me?
Also if you know of any good boutiques/stores I live in the NJ/NYC area.

Whether you are going to the junior prom or senior prom in 2010, the start of a new year usually begins the mad dash to begin planning for this favorite high school event. As you are in the midst of your planning and shopping, you're likely to ask yourself this one question: What's the difference between a junior prom dress and senior prom dress? Let's talk about that now!

Junior prom dresses: Although they are both fun and important events in your high school career, generally speaking - the junior prom is a less formal event. Gowns for this dance are typically shorter, more trendy and a lot cheaper than you would spend on your senior prom gown. These dresses are especially designed for girls between the ages of fourteen to seventeen years old, so they also tend to be more modest and age appropriate. In many ways, this gown is going to be more along the lines of a cocktail dress than a formal event dress. Most retailers and dress designers have special sections just for junior prom dresses, and as you browse them - you will notice that there is an obvious difference between the styles, cuts, shapes and lengths of them. Because the junior prom is just one year away from the senior prom, try not to overspend. The dress you buy for the junior dance can also be worn to your homecoming dance during your senior year.

Senior prom dresses: The senior prom is the final major dance of your high school career, and apart from your high school graduation, it will be the most memorable event as well. People tend to spend more money on the twelfth grade prom than any other event during the four years of high school. Senior prom gowns are typically more formal than their junior prom counterparts. Most teen girls will opt for longer gowns that are fitted, sophisticated and elegant. While a junior dance dress can usually be worn to other semi-formal events, you will likely only wear your senior dance dress one time. This dance is like the equivalent to a Hollywood red carpet event, so finding the most stylish and glamorous gown is extremely important.

The best night of a school going teen's life is probably the prom night. It is like the culmination of point of all planning for a lot of school going teens and this is why prom safety should be a top priority amongst those who are organizing prom.

Prom night is the night that everyone waits for, the night that everyone saves up for and the night for which planning starts more than a year in advance. However due to recent budget cuts everywhere and the usual budget difficulties faced by schools, many are considering the idea of merging the junior and the senior prom. This can actually lead to many different problems and compromise prom safety, which is very important to keep the prom goers safe.

The junior prom and the senior prom both see a large turnout and there will be a huge crowd problem at the get go. And as every experienced organizer knows, crowd control is a huge issue in a lot of places. This crowd will be especially hard to control because there will be two distinctly different age groups and they will behave and react differently when faced with different situations. This makes it harder to chalk out action plans for the prom.

The two groups are the juniors and the seniors and everyone knows that they don't always get along together. It is often the case that the seniors will want to dominate or the juniors will feel threatened by them or they just might not get along for some reason. This might result in minor disturbances to the peace of the prom and may even lead to huge fights that spiral out of control before any one has had the chance to realize what's going on. And in a crowded area, this can be especially difficult and challenging.

The average prom budget is never big enough to hire a place big enough to comfortably accommodate all the juniors and seniors together. There will be space problems that itself is a potential safety hazard in case they need to be evacuated on an emergency basis. There will most likely be mass panic and a stampede at the location and people can get hurt.

With such issues, the school may end up having to pay fines for the damages caused to the venue and also having to answer to the outraged parents. So it is always a good idea to keep the junior and senior prom dances separate. If it is possible, the prom dances can be held on the same day and at the same place, but on different levels. But such multi-level venues are rare and expensive. Hiring entertainment for a mixed group prom can be a nightmare as well.

So separating the junior prom and the senior prom dances is really the wise thing to do if you want to make sure that every one has a safe and wonderful time.

The jewelry you choose to wear to your senior or junior prom is just as important as the dress you decide to wear. Prom for many teenagers is one of the most memorable nights of their lives. The right accessories can look great with your style and compliment the dress and hairdo you sport that evening. On the other hand, the wrong jewelry can look out of place or overwhelm your overall look making you look tacky. Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect prom bracelets, earrings, necklaces and more.

Tip #1: Buy your dress before you buy your jewelry.

Choosing your jewelry highly limits the dress choices you have. When you choose large necklaces, for example, most halter-top dresses won’t work well, and if you go for smaller earrings and a smaller necklace, your neck may look too stark if you go for a strapless dress and an up-do hairstyle. Your dress is the main feature for the evening, so purchase it first and then buy jewelry to match your dress style and color.

Tip #2: Buy jewelry that matches, but not necessarily in a jewelry set.

While many retailers are selling jewelry sets, jewelry often looks great when you pair up different styles that are the same color. If you choose to wear a classic black dress, vibrant pink jewelry would adorn it nicely. As long as you get the same color jewelry, a chunky bracelet, tear-drop earrings, and a long necklace with a bright pink charm would perfectly complete your look. At the same time, many people make the mistake of choosing jewelry that is the same metal but has nothing else in common, which looks piecemeal and can be tacky. Instead, look for pieces that have similar shapes and styles. Lay the jewelry out in front of you with a swatch from your dress to see how it works together before making any purchase.

Tip #3: Choose at least one large piece that creates a bold statement.

Prom 2009 is all about making a bold statement. Many girls choose to make their statement with jewelry instead of their dress. If this is the case for you, choose a simple dress and at least one large piece of jewelry that makes a valiant statement about your style. Brightly colored or patterned chunky bracelets are extremely popular as well as choker-style necklaces that drape over your collar bone for that stunning regal look. Do not be afraid to think outside of the box when it comes to your jewelry, especially if you have chosen a subtler, classic dress design.

Tip #4: Do not forget about jewelry for your hair.

Most people look for rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and even anklets for the prom. This year consider adding a little sparkle with some jewelry for your hair. You can find everything from pearl and rhinestone headbands to jeweled flower clips that can add to the beauty of your hair style. Hair jewelry does not work with every style, so talk to your hairstylist before spending money on pieces to ensure that they will work with the hair style you want to wear to prom.

Tip #5: Set a price for your jewelry before you start shopping.

No matter what your budget or style may be, you can find great jewelry for prom. However, if you do not set a limit for yourself, you will likely end up spending too much. High-end jewelry can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Keep in mind that your prom is a night when you will be dancing in a crowd and carrying on without a care in the world. It is easy to lose pieces of jewelry so stick to a more modest budget and leave your grandmother’s heirloom gold and pearl earrings at home for another night.

Tip #6: Go gold in 2009.

Gold jewelry is another hot trend for 2009. If you already purchased a metallic dress, gold may be a little overwhelming and in this case go with a different color jewelry theme such as pink or black. Gold jewelry can work with just about any other color dress, from classic black and white to pink and more. Even if your dress has a bold print, you can choose subtle gold jewelry to wear that will complete your desired look. Remember to not overdo your appearance where it gets in the way of your natural beauty.

Tip #7: Choose long-lasting pieces.

Whatever pieces of jewelry you choose should look great against your skin tone and work well with the rest of your wardrobe, not just the prom dress that you will most likely only wear once or twice. How much are you willing to spend on a piece of jewelry that you only wear once? On the other hand, you will probably feel more comfortable shelling out more hard-earned money for a necklace or earrings that you know you will still be wearing years from now. “Evergreen” jewelry pieces never go out of style and work just as well with jeans as they do with a formal dress.

It is important to remember that all of your prom fashion, including your dress, shoes, and jewelry, needs to correspond with your personal style. It is more important that you love how you look on your prom night than trying to keep up with the latest fashion trends.

In order to conserve money I decided to wear a pair a shoes I already owned to my junior prom. The shoes I'm thinking about wearing with my lavender dress are black and closed toe with a sort of strap thing behind your heel. I was just wondering if this would look well together because I don't wanna look like crap, it would ruin the night for me if I did.
