Pregnancy no longer means being confined to boring, plain clothes. Pregnant celebrities have been instrumental in changing popular views on maternity fashion in recent years. Designers like Liz Lange have made it their goal to give pregnant women the accessories they need to look great even with the swollen belly. Here are 7 fashion tips for moms-to-be
1. Empire waist dresses
The empire waist dress has a form-fitting seam above the belly, just under the breasts, that helps give your body shape. It doesnât hide your belly, and itâs not supposed to, unlike traditional maternity dresses, which simply drape shapelessly over everything. The empire waist dress is elegant and simple and should be a part of any mother-to-beâs wardrobe. 2. Have fun with your tees
T-shirts are always good to have around during pregnancy. Make them playful and plentiful, as they are comfortable and can always be matched with light blazers so that to give you semi-formal, relaxed look when needed. Stretchy fabric is great, since it means youâll be able to wear them well into your 9 months. 3. Wear bold jewelry
Because maternity fashion usually relies on plain colors and simple, elegant designs, itâs the perfect outlet for showing off with big, bold jewelry. Those large pendants and eye-catching diamond studded bracelets and necklaces can be the perfect accent to a simple, empire wait evening dress. 4. Show off your body
No, it doesnât mean wearing small tops that reveals your growing baby bump. It means that, since a lot of attention will be on your belly anyway, you should take this time to show off other parts of your body. Tastefully, of course. For example, on your next cocktail or black-tie event, try to wear a long, backless maternity gown. Low cut dresses are also great for showing off your increased bust size (a nice pregnancy perk). 5. Floral designs
These are great for the spring and summer months. Floral designs are flattering and fun. Purses and other fashion accessories as well as dresses can look great with floral design. Look for floral dresses with long flaring skirts and empire waists. 6. Maternity bras
Because of the need for extra support, maternity bras tend to be clunky and un-sexy. But now there are plenty of designer maternity bras made to give you the extra support while still looking great. Shop around and youâll find special, strapless maternity bras that proved the support while still letting you wear those strapless dresses and tops that you like so much. 7. Maternity jeans
Say goodbye to those drab sweat pants. Maternity designers now offer wide selections of maternity jeans. Jeans are the most versatile garments you can have in your closet, and now it is easy to find a pair made to fit your changing waistline. You donât have to go to a local place to purchase maternity wear; there are so many places now online where you can buy the best clothes for yourself to stay stylish. Take time for yourself to look and feel good!

It happens too often that brides go shopping for a wedding dress, fall in love with one, and then find that it’s way out of their budget. Then they are either heartbroken because they can’t afford the dress or spend money they don’t have to get it anyway.
Stick to your budget
Most brides have a general budget in mind when they’re in wedding dress shopping, but they usually spend more than what they originally thought. Don’t go shopping until you have some idea what dresses cost so that you can set a reasonable limit for yourself.
Once you have this limit in mind, you should alert the bridal boutique assistant that you only want to see dresses within that price range. You can also look through online auctions and dress exchanges if you budget it really tight, but be sure you don’t spend more than you can afford here either. Even a cheaper dress can be beautiful with the right accessories.
Steer clear of intricate embroidery and bead work
Hand-sewn embroidery and embellishments take hours to complete, so they cost a lot. Instead of that overly-embellished expensive dress, go for one in the same style that is plain. You can always add a few embellishments yourself or glam it up with accessories.
Do it yourself
There are so many great dresses out there that it doesn’t take a lot of effort to design your own dream dress. Simply mix and match styles from magazines and online pictures, and take your finished amalgamation into a dressmaker for help in creating the finished dress.
You can also make your own dress if you are an excellent dressmaker. You can find all kinds of patterns and fabrics online and in specialty shops, but you shouldn’t try to make your own dress unless you definitely know what you’re doing.
Use a bridesmaid’s dress
There are so many elegant bridesmaids’ dresses out there that you can double up as a wedding dress as many of the styles come in shades of white or cream. Choose a full length or tea length dress, and use bridal accessories to disguise the fact that it’s not actually a wedding dress.
Consider a secondhand dress
There are plenty of websites and specialist shops right now that sell used wedding dresses, so they aren’t hard to find. Use eBay and local secondhand shops to see what’s out there, but be sure you check the dress thoroughly for wear and stains before you buy it, and buy a size or two larger than you normally wear so you know the dress can be altered to fit you.
Samantha: How did the idea of CHIC Gown come about?
Lina: The idea of CHIC Gown actually originated from my very own wedding experience. After spending many exhausting months looking from one bridal boutique to another and flipping through endless pages of bridal magazines and online bridal sites, I found it very difficult to find my dream dress that was within my budget. This being the most important day of my life, I wanted a dress that I would feel special in and that I would remember forever.
I wanted to help other woman that are experiencing the same situation as I did, woman that could not afford the dress of their dreams and had to settle for something less, woman who are less fortunate then I was and do not have access to a custom dress tailor which I had and that they can trust to do a good job. So I have put together a team of very experienced dress tailors, expert bead workers and pattern makers each with over 20 years experience in re-creating designer couture dresses and evening gowns at affordable prices and the rest is⦠CHIC history!
Samantha: Is it true that your own wedding gown and the other dresses you wore on your wedding day was made by CHIC?
Lina: Yes, the same tailor that made the dresses for my own wedding day is now the chief tailor for CHIC. The dresses turned out so beautifully and I received endless comments on my wedding day. You can see the dresses that I wore in our CHIC Gown Gallery on our site.
Samantha: I see you stand behind your own product and I have to admit, the dresses turned out beautifully.
Lina: Thank you.
Samantha: So tell me, how does this whole Design Your Own CHIC Gown concept work?
Lina: Well, itâs actually quite simple. The customer visits our site and fills out our online form to request for a dress quotation. On the form the client will be able to load the pictures of the dress that she would like to have made. Once we receive the quotation request, our tailors immediately start work on preparing a quotation for the client; this usually takes 3-4 business days. If they client is satisfied with the quotation then we ask the client to send a small deposit, usually 20 percent of the total cost of the dress. Once we receive the deposit, the client can request for fabric swatches and trims that will be used in the final construction of the dress. Once all the details are confirmed, we then begin production of the final dress!
Samantha: That does sound very simple. What if the client receives the dress, but there needs to have re-sizing?
Lina: Should the dress not fit and needs to be re-sized; the client may send us the dress for a one free size alteration.
Samantha: Sounds great!
Samantha: Is it true that you do not have an in house designer?
Lina: That is correct; even though our dresses are all made to order, we do not have an in house designer to design dresses. Each client will have to send us pictures of the exact dress they would like to have made and we make the dress according to the pictures provided to us. This allows us to be able to provide lower prices to the customer by not having to hire an in house designer and we make exactly what the client wants.
Samantha: Lower prices sounds good to me, so how much should I expect to pay for a custom tailored dress from CHIC?
Lina: Well Samantha, each dress is very different; some dresses have more detail in the bead work, some dresses may require a specific type of fabric and some dresses just require more hours to construct. So I cannot give you a definite price, but dresses do usually start at $100 and we have had some clients pay up to $2000 for a dress.
Samantha: Does CHIC only make bridal gowns?
Lina: As well as making custom fitted bridal gowns, we also make bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, maternity wedding dresses, evening gowns and we have even made a few red carpet inspired dresses for some clients.
Samantha: And how long does it usually take to have a dress made?
Lina: Again, since each dress is a one off; some dresses will take longer than others to complete. Simpler dresses can be completed in a fast as 2 weeks, while more complicated dresses are usually completed in 4-6 weeks. When we provide the initial quotation to our clients we will also provide them with a time frame of how long it will take for the dress to be completed.
Samantha: Seems simple enough.
Lina: It is really simple!
Samantha: I saw on your blog that you recently had a contest to give away a free custom made dress and there was a great response, can you tell me more about that?
Lina: Yes, we recently had a draw from that ended on Aug 1. It was too bad that there could be only one winner because there was such a great response. But donât worry to all those who have entered and did not win this time because we will be having another draw in the near future, so be sure to check on our blog for future promotions and contents.
Samantha: Will you be posting up pictures of the contest winner and the dress that she has chosen to have made by CHIC?
Lina: Yes, the winner will be sending us pictures of the dress she has chosen for us to make. We will be posting those pictures on our blog, so be sure to check our blog to see her beautiful dress.
Samantha: Well, thank you Lina. I look forward to having a dress made by CHIC in the near future â and I hope you continue to be very successful. It's a great concept, and great for woman who want to take part in designing their own dresses and defining their own image.
Lina: Thank you Samantha, we are already experiencing a great volume of repeat customers who are showing great confidence and pleasure in our dresses.
